Configuration or problem-solving information:
Please be aware that:
- Your internet browser should be configured to accept all cookies.
- NEW: Soon, off-campus access will only be available to those who login using their username: firstnamelastname (all lower case) and using your 7 digit TCL ID #. Until the end of Fall 2010 semester, a link to the current method of access will be provided. Current method: Correctly type in the 14 digit barcode located on the TCL ID issued by the LRC, or enter your TCL email address.
- Select the "OK" or "Yes" buttons for all messages about entering a secure area.
- If you experience problems accessing the databases or electronic books from home, your anti-virus or Internet security software may need to be disabled while you use the databases.
- If you have problems accessing the databases or electronic books from your work location, check with your network administrator to see if your computer is behind a firewall. The Library's remote access software may not be accessible via computers behind a firewall.
- There may be periodic downtime associated with the Proxy server that manages access to these databases and electronic books.
- An additional troubleshooting tip about NoodleBib:
- If you are having problems accessing NoodleBib, try accessing our databases (Academic Search Premier or Biography Resource Center) to see if you have access. If you can access the databases, then the services are working properly; consult your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further assistance.
A separate username and password for NoodleBib may be required. Contact the LRC to obtain.
- AOL and NetZero are ISP that have traditionally given remote users trouble.
One AOL solution might be to: 1) Minimize the AOL page; 2) open a separate IE window and go back the library webpage and try to access the electronic resources in that new window.
Access to the LRC's article and research databases is available through a proxy server. The student's computer must have either Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher) or Netscape 4.7 (or higher) installed. In order to login to the proxy server to obtain remote access to the library's subscription-based resources, go to the Databases by Title page, select the database title you wish to access and login with the barcode located on the back of your TCL issued ID, or TCL email address. In the near future, your username will be your first and last name, all lowercase, and your password will be your 7 digit TCL ID#.
If you encounter problems
- If you are using AOL's browser to access the Internet, use Internet Explorer or Netscape instead. Once you are connected to AOL, you can minimize their browser and open another instead.
- You may experience problems if you have not setup your browser to accept cookies.
Certain web sites require the use of "domain-based cookies". A web server named web1.somedb.com might set a cookie and request that it be sent back to any server ending in .somedb.com. Many URL rewriting proxy servers either leave these cookies alone (which destroys their ability to function) or change the cookie so that it is sent back to all virtual web servers (causing cookies to "leak" to the wrong servers). EZproxy handles this situation by storing all domain-based cookies directly on the server as part of the user's session information. (from http://www.usefulutilities.com/support/technical.html)
